NGA-Earth adds imagery of recently flooded areas of the American Midwest

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with unclassified commercial imagery of the recently flooded areas of the American Midwest and is also providing public access to some of the images. You can locate the imagery at www.nga-earth.org and Google Earth users can use their KML reflectors which provide access to the imagery directly in G.Earth.

USGS topo layer for Google earth - sweet!

I spent this morning flying around Northern Colorado looking for a place to swim in the Poudre River near Fort Collins (any ideas??) - I then had a need to add a USGS topo layer to my Google Earth session - enter good old Frank Taylor (aka. Google Earth Blog founder) and a solution! A great add-on for Google Earth from a company called 3D solar was found, enabling you to view USGS topos for your area of interest was located easily seaching his blog. Simply add the layer, wait a few seconds and the topo will appear.. toggle off when you don't need it... I'd love to see the ability to swipe the topo in/out with the google earth scene! Search for MKL KMZ data using Google Search... no problem

A tip... if you'd like to locate some KMLs for viewing in Google Earth there's a very simple way to search ALL the KMLs available onn the web (they are simple text files remember). Using Google Search simply type in the following string to search for a KML for Vancouver... filetype:kmz vancouver - notice the vat number of results.. you can refine your search or add even more detail if you'd like better results.
