National Land Cover Database (NLCDB) 2001 Online via WeoGeo
Via the WeoGeo team blog, the NLCDB is now available from WeoGeo. Details... With this 30-meter resolution land cover data, educated generalizations can be formed about the density of particular classifications across an area. One neat cartographic trick I learned in school is to simply change the transparency of the raster and lay it over a DEM or washed out aerial photo to provide a colorized base map according to classification.
