Census Bureau 2010 Population Estimates
Just in time for the new year, the US Census Bureau has started releasing data from the 2010 US Census of the population. These figures provide national-level estimates of the population by age, sex, two race groups - black and non-black and for the first time, the Hispanic population under age 20. Grab the 2007 TIGER/Line Shapefiles from the Census Bureau
I see that some of the free "data flogging" websites are now flogging the free 2007 TIGER/Line files (SHP format) for $100+ bucks! OR.... you can always simply go to http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tgrshp2007/tgrshp2007.html for your self and take a few minutes to download these data yourself - sounds like a no-brainer to me!
About the data... The 2007 TIGER/Line Shapefiles contain current geographic areas (boundaries of governmental units as of January 1, 2007) and Census 2000 vintage geography. The shapefiles also contain some additional post January 1, 2007 feature updates reported in the Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).

New Census data - USA Counties data files
Downloadable data files have been created to accompany the web-based USA Counties. Now users can download directly more than 5,900 data items from the Web site for the United States, the 50 states and the District of Columbia, and all 3,141 counties and county equivalents. Information in USA Counties covers topics such as: age, agriculture, ancestry, banking, building permits, business patterns, crime, earnings, education, elections, employment, government, health, households, housing, income, labor force, manufactures, population, poverty, retail trade, social programs, veterans, vital statistics, water use, and wholesale trade. 2007 First Edition Public TIGER/Line Shapefiles January 14, 2008

Of note, beware of free Tiger data that may be for sale dirt cheap on commercial sites (like the data depot, etc...) as it likely may not be reformated and is freely available via ftp download from the US Census Bureau. If its not publicized as being in SHP format then you'll likely simply get native TIGER files which require much effort to use in your GIS

Census Survey of Manufactures: Geographic Area Statistics
Just released by the US Census bureau... 2005 Annual Survey of Manufactures: Geographic Area Statistics — State-level data for industry groups at the three-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) level. Includes statistics on employment, payroll, value added by manufacture, cost of materials consumed, value of shipments and total capital expenditures. State and Metropolitan Area Data Book
A reminder about a very useful, new resource from the Census Bureau... The State and Metropolitan Area Data Book features more than 1,500 data items for the United States and individual states, counties and metropolitan areas from a variety of sources. The files include data published for 2005 population and housing unit estimates and many items from the 1990 and 2000 Census of Population and Housing.
